Is this bid fair?

Upload a contractor’s estimate. We’ll tell you whether it’s specific enough to judge at all — and if it is, how the price compares to published cost data.

Most bids can’t be judged. That’s the point.

“Roof replacement — $12,400” is a number, not an estimate. The same $12,400 buys architectural shingles with a full tear-off and new underlayment, or one layer of 3-tab nailed over the old roof. Any tool that scores that bid is guessing. When yours doesn’t say enough, we tell you that instead of inventing a verdict — and we give you the exact questions to send back.

What we look for

A bid you can actually evaluate names the quantities, the materials, and the measurements, separates labour from materials, and says what it excludes. We score those, show you the arithmetic, and only price the bid once enough of them are there.

Comparisons are drawn from our published cost guides, where every figure is cited to a public source and dated.
